Delegates Lament About Poor Handouts From William Ruto

Luhya delegates who attended a meeting hosted by William Ruto in his Sugoi home have claimed that the deputy president  embarrassed them big time.
They said that they will never attend such functions again after they were given KSh 2,000 each for apparently showing up at the meeting.

The junior delegates were among opinion leaders drawn from the religious and political sphere in western Kenya. The junior delegates numbered 1,200 representing 60 wards in Kakamega county.
It thus means Ruto used KSh 2.4 million on the delegates as part of his charm offensive to win the Luhya voting block as he popularises the Jubilee Party.

According to one of the delegates, a former local government chairperson, they expected to receive between KSh 5,000 and KSh 10,00 each.
“It was an embarrassment, I have never seen such payments in my political life. I will never make the mistake of attending another meeting,” Said Lawrence Itondolo as quoted by The Star.

Itondolo was one of the 1,200 delegates and also noted that the delegates were ferried from Kakamega by bus and paid the money immediately after alighting. He also disclosed that they were served lunch at 9 AM.

It is said that senior delegates including governors and their deputies were taking home up to KSh 100,000 from the meeting depending on their perceived influence on the electorate.
The Friday,January 8 meeting has raised a political storm with the opposition accusing William Ruto of using age-old political tactics to win the Luhya vote.
