Give Birth To Beat 'Tyranny Of Numbers' - MP

An MP in Bungoma county has advised his constituents to give birth to as many children as possible.
Bumula MP Boniface Otsiula, on Saturday, January 23, said that would be the only way to get for them to be part of the national government’s leadership.
“Our brothers in Central and Rift Valley regions lead in population because majority of them do not use the family planning methods, if we want to lead this nation in future let’s avoid using the family planning methods so that they have enough voters that will propel them to statehouse,” said Otsiula as quoted by The Standard.
As part of his political strategy, the lawmaker promised to give unspecified cash rewards to all pregnant women he would meet in his constituency.
He argued that having high population would help the region get more resources from the national government and also be a bargaining tool for positions in the national government.
Several politicians, especially from the perceived opposition strongholds, have been rallying their supporters to register as voters in preparation for the coming elections.
In the 2013 presidential race, CORD leader Raila Odinga beat President Uhuru Kenyatta in five of the eight former provinces but the latter still emerged victorious.
Uhuru enjoyed high number of voter registration and turnout from his strongholds, Central Kenya and Deputy President William Ruto’s Rift Valley backyard, unlike the opposition whose numbers were low.
CORD hopes that the ‘tyranny of numbers’ could shift in its favor come 2017 if the coalition’s supporters turn out in large numbers for the voter registarion.
