Kisii Deputy Governor Suspended After Visiting DP Ruto

More Trouble For Kisii County Deputy Governor Who Visited DP Ruto At Sugoi

A top leader in Kisii county who led a delegation to Deputy President William Ruto’s Sugoi home continues to take a beating.
Deputy Governor Joash Maangi’s January 7, has been met with opposition from Kisii county residents who heckled and chased him away when he tired to explain his mission.
Maangi’s troubles did not end there as his party – ODM – officials in the county suspended him from his role as their organising secretary on Tuesday, January 12.

The officials also said they would forward his case to the national officials for further disciplinary actions as he failed to uphold and defend ODM policies.
“This is a plot by Maangi and his accomplices to gain materially from the Jubilee coalition while lying to them that they can deliver the Gusii vote in the forthcoming general election, and an attempt to undermine the gains made by devolution and the 2010 constitution… If he and his other accomplices want to decamp to Jubilee; they should do so fully aware of the provisions of the Political Parties Act,” said Eric Janganya, the interim secretary, as quoted by The Standard.
Kisii County Assembly Speaker Kerosi Ondieki, who was in the Sugoi delegation, has also been suspended as the party vice chairman in the region.
In his defense, the Kisii county deputy governor maintained that the visit was not political as they only went to engage with the national government on development matters through the deputy president.

Maangi also said the trip was not his personal initiative as the request was first made in the county assembly and backed by area MPs. He added that the county party officials, including chairman and Kisii Senator Chris Obure, knew he was to be away on that day.
