Al-Shabaab kills 5 Somali soldiers

– Militant extremist group al-Shabaab is behind a roadside bomb that went off on Tuesday, March 1, near the Somali capital of Mogadishu
– The bombing killed at least five Somali soldiers and injured another eight. The incident took place in the village of Almada, about 20 kilometers Northwest of Mogadishu
– The al-Shabaab claim that they killed six Somali government troops in the attack but the group tends to exaggerate the numbers of casualties that result from their attacks
A deadly bombing has hit Somali troops on Tuesday, March 1 as they traveled in a convoy approximately 20 kilometers northwest of the Somali capital of Mogadishu.

Al-Shabaab kill five soldiers in Mogadishu bombing



Somalia has been subjected to several attacks from the extremist group within recent days.
The al-Shabaab has been active in recent weeks and has repeatedly attacked military targets of Somali forces and the KDF. Kenya has recently proposed to increase funding to fight the al-Shabaab within Somali territory.
Al-Shabaab claimed to have killed 63 KDF soldiers in an attack that was carried out against KDF forces in the El-Adde area of southern Somalia on the morning of Friday, January 15. The fighting is reported to have lasted over 12 hours. The al-Shabaab claims have since inflated to more than 100 KDF soldiers killed in the attack.
The United Nations further released a statement condemning the deadly attack.
The group have claimed responsibility in the twin attacks in the town of Baidoa on Sunday, February 29 2016.
Baidoa is the capital of Somalia’s Southwest State and the Bay Region, according to police the group bombed a busy junction and a nearby restaurant in killing at least 30 people.
The al-Shabaab  attacked the SYL hotel in Mogadishu, leaving at least 14 people dead late in the evening of Friday, February 26. The attack lead to a gun battle with security guards and later government forces. At least five al-Shabaab militants were killed by government forces during the attack.
Recently the al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for a deadly plane explosion.
The blast occurred on a flight from Mogadishu, Somalia to Djibouti on Tuesday, February 2. One person, possibly the bomber himself was killed in the blast and his body pulled from the plane, landing outside of Mogadishu.
