See how Kalenjin elders have turned heat on DP Ruto over rebel URP members

Deputy President William Ruto is under intense pressure to make peace with rebel United Republican Party (URP) members ahead of the 2017 general election.
Kalenjin elders have now turned the heat on the deputy president, demanding that he finds a truce between him and the rebel members.
The elders led by Simone Murkelda said that the differences that erupted between Ruto’s camp and the rebels during the just concluded Kericho by-election portrayed the Kalenjin community in a bad way and that it is now time that a solution is reached as the country heads for another general election.
They now demand that Ruto calls for an urgent meeting with his political critics in the Rift Valley to sort out their differences and work together as a block.

“What we want is see our people working together. The DP should not dismiss his political critics in Rift Valley and he should urgently call for a meeting to resolve issues that are threatening to divide the community along ethnic and political lines from South Rift and North Rift regions,” Murkelda said as quoted by Standard.
The Kericho senatorial by-election brought out the sharp differences between leaders in the two factions, with Ruto’s grip as the Rift Valley political kingpin seriously threatened.
However, a win for Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) candidate Aaron Cheruiyot ascertained that Ruto still holds firmly his position.
The votes garnered by KANU’s Paul Sang, however, indicated that a number of residents from the south Rift are not with the deputy president.
Among the leaders who have openly rebelled are Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto, MPs Alfred Keter of Nandi Hills, Oscar Sudi of Kapseret and Johana Ng’eno of Emurua Dikkir.
The rebel URP members joined hands with KANU led by Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, West Pokot Senator John Lonyangapuo and KANU Secretary General Nick Salat to give Jubilee sleepless nights.
It can be remembered that Governor Ruto was a strong defender and friend of DP Ruto before the fall out that was necessitated by the governor’s call for increased funding for county governments.

The leaders believe that the deputy president has sidelined sections of the Rift Valley, notably the South Rift as other regions benefit from the national cake.
