Joho businesses finally resume operations

This is why Joho businesses to finally be re-opened

– Two container freight businesses owned by Hassan Joho, the governor of Mombasa county, have been allowed to continue with business weeks after being closed down by police
– The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) had been behind the closure despite a February court order instructing the KRA to desist from interfering in the business of the Joho family businesses
The troubles for the two Joho family businesses at the Port of Mombasa appear to finally be over as the case closing the two container freight stations has been settled.
The KRA had accused the two container freight stations of bringing in ‘contraband’.
The closing of the two container freight stations has caused issues between Kenya and Pakistan as goods shipped from Pakistan were being held back after the businesses were closed down.

David Ontweka, the lawyer for the KRA in the dispute stated in court on Friday, March 4: “My Lords, the two parties want this matter to be taken off today’s list and adjourned to another day to enable the dispute be settled amicably out of court,”

In respect of CFS, KRA is actively engaged in discussions to address issues of mutual interest, including the strengthening of CFS governance processes so as to help counter customs frauds,” a statement wired to the newsroom read in part.
The controversial closing occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday, February 2. The move contradicted a court order telling the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) not to interfere. The move came only a day after the High Court ruled that the KRA can’t close the Autoports Freight Terminals Limited and Portside Freight Terminals Limited.
