Police Lured Suspected Killer Of Popular Musician From His Hideout

Details of how criminal investigation officers managed to arrest the first and main suspect in the cold blood murder of popular Kalenjin musician Diana ‘Chelele’ Musila have emerged.

The arrested man is the deceased’s estranged husband who is also facing murder charges after he was suspected of killing Eliud Yegon in 2012.
Eric Musila was arrested in Nakuru where he was hiding out in a relative’s place, having travelled from Kericho on the eve of the murder of Chelele.
Police said they lured Musila from his hideout to a hotel in Nakuru and took him to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) offices in the town where he was grilled for hours.
But how did they reach to the conclusion that Musila could be the suspect behind the murder of the popular musician?
Musila has had domestic wrangles with his deceased wife before and it was said that he killed Yegon because he suspected he was having a love affair with Chelele.
And even after news of Chelele’s death hit the airwaves, Musila who had taken their two kids away from the musician early on, never showed up in Bomet to view the body or condole the family of the deceased.

The detectives therefore started reviewing Musila’s mobile phone communication since Chelele’s body was found dumped outside her house on Saturday, January 9, morning in Kapkwen, Bomet County.
“He travelled from Nairobi on Tuesday, January 5, to Kericho where the signals show he moved from one bar to another and kept on calling a number belonging to the deceased,” a detective revealed as quoted by Standard.
It was after Chelele joined Musila at a club in Kericho that their phones were switched off. This according to the detectives, was revealed by calls and texts on their mobile phones.
“It shows that the two met as phone signals pointed they were in the same place and after sometime the phones went off on Wednesday night,” the detective added.
Musila would later travel to Nakuru on January 9, the same day Chelele’s body was discovered in her compound. Police say she must have been killed elsewhere and her body brought to her house.
It is Nakuru where he hid in a relative’s house in Section 58 but the detectives managed to lure him and had him arrested.
“CID officers from Bomet have been collaborating with those from Nakuru to trace the suspect who went into the hiding since the murder occurred,” Nakuru DCIO James Lelia said.
After her death, an audio recording emerged claiming to be Chelele’s. In the audio, the musician sounds to be in much pain where she confesses that she had no hand in the murder of Eliud Yegon, and that her troubles have continued to double up as her husband, Musila, is giving her sleepless nights.

She revealed how she tried to seek for help from everyone reachable including Bomet county governor Isaac Ruto to no avail.
Chelele begs for anyone and everyone to help her two children in what sounded like a premonition of her death.
