Oil, Tax And Terrorism To Dominate Buhari, Uhuru Talks

Why Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari Is Coming To Kenya

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari is on Wednesday January 27, 2016 expected to start a three-day visit to Kenya, his first trip to the East African region since coming to power.
Foreign Affairs experts have pointed as important the visit by Buhari who is heading the biggest economy in Africa and say that Kenya is set to benefit from the talks expected to revolve around oil and gas exploration, taxes and combating challenge of terrorism.
Talks are also expected to centre on trade between the two countries, and how to promote intra-African trade that Uhuru is keen on.
In recent years, Kenya and Nigeria have signed at least 17 tools of agreement between the two states stretching back to the presidency of Jonathan Goodluck who handed over power to Buhari in April 2015.
Uhuru did not attend Buhari’s swearing in although Deputy President William Ruto led some Kenyan leaders there after
“The visit will help maintain momentum in the development of bilateral relations registered in the recent past and also signify the solidity of our relations as it avails a unique opportunity to consolidate strategic partnership between the two countries and forge even closer ties in all fields for the mutual benefit of the people of the two countries,”  Tom Amolo, Political and Diplomatic Secretary in Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Sunday Nation on January 24, 2016.
Amolo said that it is expected that a decision will be arrived at for the launching of the Kenya-Nigeria joint commission for cooperation, an important implementation and monitoring mechanism for the agreements that the two countries have entered into.
“In addition, the streamlining of immigration issues, particularly the issuance of the five year visas for our businessmen, will further invigorate our trade and business ties.”
State House spokesman Manoah Esipisu had earlier reiterated the position that both countries will consider how best to improve mutual trade and review strategies for improving regional security.
