Al Shabaab Suspected To Have Attacked Police Officers

A lorry carrying police officers on Tuesday, January 26 ran over an Improvised Explosive Device in Lamu which exploded and killed at least six of them.
Three other officers are uncounted for with others out of the 15 who in the lorry said to have sustained life threatening injuries.

The incident occurred at Mangai area, regarded as an al Shabaab infested territory with their mode of attack being to plant explosives targeting security personnel.
Statistics show that since 2011, about 50 police officers have been killed in similar fashion and it is believed to be the work of a Shabaab militia who roam the area.

The lorry was carrying forces from the Rapid Deployment wing of the police.
The regions proximity to volatile Somalia makes it an easy hide-out for the militia group.

The attack comes barely two weeks after a deadly attack by the al Shabaab militia on a KDF army base inside Somalia where more than 60 soldiers are believed to have been killed.
The militia group has always claimed that they hit Kenyan security agencies to have  the country pull its forces from the Somalia.
Since Kenya joined the African Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) al Shabaab have been launching a series of attacks targeted at both civilians and security agencies in the country.
