We Will Not Rig The 2017 Election-Ruto

Deputy President William Ruto has dismissed talk that the government is planning to rig the 2017 General Election to ensure it defeats the opposition by hook or crook.

Speaking through the Deputy President Press service, Ruto DP said people talking of vote rigging a year to the General Election in 2017 were keen on spreading propaganda, which is unhealthy for the country’s future and should be subjected to the law.
“All these claims you hear about rigging and violence is nothing but propaganda by people who are losing support and Kenyans must ignore them. We do not want to engage in divisive politics. We want to create peace and stability for our country,” Ruto said.
On Saturday, January 2, 2016, Mombasa politician Suleiman Shahbal, who is allied to the Jubilee coalition said that the party will win the 2017 General Election by whichever means, even if it would be compelled to steal votes.
Shabhal’s sensational claims sparked outrage from Kenyans and leaders across the political divide even as the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) ordered him to record a statement with the CID over his utterances.

The wealthy businessman contested for the governor position in Mombasa County in 2013 but lost to Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) aspirant Ali Hassan Joho.
What is ironic is that Shabhal made the election rigging remarks at a meeting attended by Ruto and Majority Leader of the National Assembly Aden Duale at the Pwani University College on January 2, 2016. However, Ruto said that action should be taken against such people for the inflammatory remarks.
“What Kenyans want is a free and fair democratic process. Those talking about political violence whether in the Jubilee side or the Opposition should not be tolerated,” he said.
Ruto was addressing politicians from Nyamira and Kisii counties who visited him at his Sugoi home in Uasin Gishu County on Thursday, January 7, 2016.
