Joho Attacks Uhuru For Not Recognising Him In His Backyard

Hassan Joho Attacks Uhuru Kenyatta For Ignoring Him

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has hit out at President Uhuru Kenyatta over the recent visit the head of state made to the county.
Joho was furious at being left out of the president’s ‘trips’ around Mombasa to inspect street lighting projects that Kenya Power has undertaken in Kenya’s second largest city.

He said that President Kenyatta and his entourage were just ‘walking around’ Mombasa town and was not informed of the tours that the president made in the county in the company of other politicians inclined to the Jubilee administration.
“I am not aware of anything. They are just walking around. It’s not right. But it is okay. They are the bosses,” Joho said as quoted in the Star newspaper.
President Kenyatta has spent several days, including the Christmas and the New Year period in Mombasa and Lamu counties. He appears to have totally given a cold shoulder to Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) affiliated politicians in the coast region.
Joho was voted in as Mombasa governor in the 2013 general election on a Cord ticket. He defeated his closest rival Suleiman Shahbal who was backed by the Jubilee administration. Shahbal has in the recent past been seen in the company of top government officials including Deputy President William Ruto and the National Assembly majority leader Aden Duale.

On Saturday, January 2, 2016, Shabhal came under heavy criticism for sensationally saying that the Jubilee administration will win the 2017 general election by all means even if it meant stealing the election.
The director of public prosecutions (DPP) has since ordered him to record a statement with the CID over the utterances. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has also criticised the politician for making the reckless remarks.
Shabhal’s claims came at a time when the Jubilee administration is seeking to win the coast region, which is a strong Cord supporter, to its side. However, Joho claimed that the support Jubilee was seeking from the coast region was not genuine.
“These people have hatred for Mombasa. But, it is okay. We didn’t expect anything from the anyway. Let them do whatever they like,” Joho said further.
