Waiguru Should Have Resigned Early- John Mbadi

Just hours after Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru tabled her resignation letter, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chairman John Mbadi has delved into the hot issue currently in Kenya.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Mbadi is quoted as dismissing claims by Waiguru that she chose to step aside because of her health which has been affected by constant attacks from all corners.
“I do not think the main reason for Waiguru’s resignation is because of health concerns. While that might be true, I think she decided to resign because of pressure that she is facing over allegations of corruption at her ministry,” Mbadi is quoted as saying.
The Suba Member of Parliament went ahead to say that Waiguru should have left office as soon as allegations of corruption erupted in her ministry.
He added that if indeed Waiguru was sick as she claimed, she should have applied for leave not resign from her post.
“Waiguru’s resignation was long overdue. She should have vacated office when it first emerged that there were allegations of corruption at the NYS, in accordance with Chapter Six of the Constitution on leadership and integrity,” Mbadi as quoted.

Waiguru tabled her resignation on Saturday, November 21, after pressure piled on her to leave office over corruption allegations.
She, however, requested President Uhuru Kenyatta to consider her for a lighter job so that she can continue serving Kenyans.
This comes after Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter tabled an impeachment motion against Waiguru in parliament, but was rejected by Speaker Justin Muturi.
Early on, Igembe South MP Mithika Linturi’s impeachment motion against Waiguru was withdrawn after what he said is being prevailed upon by Uhuru.
The Ministry of Devolution has been under scrutiny ever since it emerged that over KSh791 million had been stolen through the National Youth Service (NYS) projects rolled out across the country.
Initially, Waiguru denied that the money had been stolen when the opposition raised a red flag. She claimed that she had managed to stop the scandal before it materialized.
She, however, admitted later on that the money had been stolen. She subsequently sent packing 22 officers whom she accused of the disappearance of the money.
Waiguru has continued to remain defiant that she is innocent even after another scandal erupted where items were purchased at inflated rates in the devolution ministry.
Devolution Principal Secretary Peter Mangiti, who ‘erroneously’ presented the ‘wrong’ list of the items to the Public Accounts Committee, has been prosecuted alongside NYS director Nelson Githinji over the same.
