JUBILEE faults IEBC

 



– The Jubilee Coalition is clamming that IEBC is falling for pressure by Cord the leaders
– IEBC had earlier met the Cord party leaders to iron out issues concerning voter registration and BVR kits allocation
– Aden Duale warned action will be taken if the commission did not respond to the allegation

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has been warned by the Jubilee Coalition at a press conference.
Aden Duale also accused the rival Cord coalition of presenting false numbers to IEBC.
The Majority Leader also accused Cord of intimidating and putting undue pressure on the electoral body.
Duale who is the majority leader was speaking the press conference at parliament buildings on Wednesday, February 17.
Duale was critical of the commission clamming IEBC independence was undermined when they met Cord leaders outside the established laws that govern elections, political parties and the management of the electoral commission.

“There are forums provided for in law where you can invite all stakeholders for a meeting. You’re setting a very bad precedent,” said Duale.

Duale also alleged that Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetang’ula  who are the Cord leaders had asked the electoral commission to help them set up a secretariat.
Jubilee is also accusing IEBC of seeking input from interested parties which go against the constitutional mandate of the commision.
Duale and the Jubilee Coalition gave the IEBC chairman an ultimatum of 24 hours or face stern action from the party.

The IEBC has previously dismissed claims by the opposition that it intends to list more voters in areas of the country where President Uhuru Kenyatta has favourable support.
IEBC spokesperson Tabitha Mutemi said the notion that some areas perceived to be opposition have received less bio-metric voter registration kits than those considered to be Jubilee strongholds is misleading.
The commission was responding to concerns raised by the CORD on Saturday February 13, 2016 where the party claimed that the BVR kits were being distributed unfairly ahead of one month registration exercise.
