CORD MPs warn Kalonzo off country's top seat

– CORD co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka has also announced his presidential bid barely a month after Moses Wetangula did so as well
– Politicians within the party are calling on both leader to shelve their bids in favor of Raila Odinga, the party and electorate favorite to go up against Uhuru Kenyatta
CORD members of parliament affiliated with ODM’s Western Kenya stronghoqld have told co-principal and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to shelve his presidential aspirations.
Andrew Toboso (Butere), Raphael Otaalo (Lurambi) and John Naicca (Mumias West) have told Kalonzo that his announcement is ill timed and should instead focus on amassing numbers for CORD in the run up to the 2017 general election.
Going by a quote in the Standard, and as they spoke, they could not hide their ignorance when they questioned each other on if the coalition had the structure in place to carry out fair nominations for 2017 contestants.
“ODM lost seats in multiple constituencies across the nation because of shambolic nominations and such are the issues we should be tackling instead of losing politicians to other parties due to poor nominations,” added Toboso.
The MPs laughed off Kalonzo’s aspirations because apparently, everyone knows coalition leader Raila Odinga is the man to be watched in going up against Jubilee Administration.
“Raila has a voting block in Nyanza and Coast. He can get more than half in Western and Nairobi and he is ready to receive the split votes from Rift Valley. That is what a presidential material looks like,” said Otaalo.
The western Kenya leaders touted Raila as the solution to a divided Kenya but their counterparts in Nyanza, Coast and Ukambani were more accommodating of Kalonzo’s announcement.
“All CORD principals are allowed to make announcements and Kalonzo’s aspirations will not cause a rift in the coalition,” said Siaya Senator James Orengo.

He further added that the principals probably have a unique pre-election pact that creates a pre and post election unity which would continue to bind the coalition.
Senator Khalwale added that this announcement debunked the myth that there are flower girls in the coalition and so Kenyans will have to wait and see who would be picked as the flag bearer in the upcoming presidential election.
This announcement has given politicians withing the coalition a platform to show that CORD is democratic and every leader has freedom of expression and opinion.
Earlier this month, co-principal Moses Wetangula announced his presidential bid as well, saying that he would be launching his bid before the end of this month.
He said he was throwing his hat in the ring because he was answering to a request by the Luyah Council of Elders to do so.
Politicians within the party also asked him to shelve his aspirations in favor of Raila Odinga because he is the party and electorate favorite in running against Uhuru Kenyatta.
