Garissa official urges Uhuru to re-join Kanu

Mzee Siyad Kuno Hussein, the Garissa Kanu

A Kanu official from Garissa County has appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta to consider re-joining the party for the prosperity of the country, saying it was associated with luck.
Speaking during the renovation of the party's offices in Garissa Town Saturday, Mzee Siyad Kuno Hussein, who is the Kanu branch chairman, said that since the introduction of multi-party politics, the country had faced many challenges including economic crimes and social injustices.
Mzee Hussein, at the same time, defended the party from allegations that it was associated with dictatorship and under development of the country saying the constitution which was created during colonial time was the main problem.
He said with the current Constitution President Kenyatta ought to reconsider re-joining the party, since Kanu was “associated with luck as it brought independence to the country” and had wise leadership including President Kenyatta's father, the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, and former President Daniel arap Moi.
SOUGHT ADVICE
The former Garissa County Council Chairman recalled that during Kanu’s reign, its leadership used to seek advice from all corners of the country where “delegations consisting of elders were involved in running the affairs of government.”
"I urge President Uhuru and other leaders to come back to Kanu. Rudi kwa chama cha Kanu, ni kwa baba na mama. (Come back to Kanu, the father and mother party)," said the official.
He said parties affiliated to Jubilee and Cord had brought insincerity and encouraged widespread corruption which led to economic crimes and terrorism, noting that Kenyans were tied of the “blame games brought about by these political parties.”
"These political parties are the root cause of the entire problem. Today Kenyans are so divided along tribal lines compared to when Kanu was in power and we believe we can unite the country again. That is the reason we are appealing to President Uhuru Kenyatta to join the party," he added.
