Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) has recommended that Ruaraka MP Tom J. Kajwang’ be charged with abuse of office.
EACC wants Kajwang taken to court for apparently facilitating the employment of an individual in two positions at the same time, thus making her earn two salaries from the government.
“Inquiry into allegations that Ruaraka MP Tom Kajwang knowingly facilitated the employment of one Evelyn Achieng Osogo as a research assistant at the constituency office and also as a personal assistant by the Parliamentary Service Commission hence drawing two salaries,” the EACC report reads in part.
The commission also wants Osogo charged unlawful acquisition of public property.
Tom Kajwang, a lawyer by profession, is a member of departmental committee on justice and legal affairs. He is also a member of the the National Assembly speakers’ panel. He is a brother to Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang’ who got elected after the death of their elder brother Otieno Kajwang.
DPP Keriako Tobiko, on Tuesday, December 18, acknowledged receiving the file from the EACC.
The case is part of those in the ‘list of shame’ that the commission have been investigating since President Uhuru Kenyatta’s address in parliament in March. The list had names of top current and former government officials that were implicated in various corruption scandals.
Five cabinet secretaries who were mentioned in the list; Charity Ngilu, Davis Chrichir, Kazungu Kambi, Felix Koskei and Michael Kamau later stepped aside with a promise from the president that they would get their jobs back once cleared.
However, the promise was never fulfilled as Uhuru opted to drop all of them from the cabinet despite Kazungu Kambi, Felix Koskei and Davis Chirchir being cleared.
In his cabinet changes, Uhuru picked two sitting MPs Charles Keter and Dan Kazungu alongside five new individuals to join the team.
The new cabinet secretaries were all sworn in on December 18, after parliament’s approval.
