How Raila Will Help Out Farmers

Raila Odinga, the party leader for Cord, is set to hear the grievances and issues of farmers within the North Rift Valley region on Saturday, December 5.
The North Rift Valley farmers are growing concerned over the national government’s inability to provide them with subsidised farm inputs.
They are further taking issue with how the government is pricing maize, a price point which they are claiming is too low.
Now they’re turning to Raila to hear they’re grievances and hopefully address their issues.
They’re set to meet with the Cord leader in a hotel room in Eldoret to discuss the issues surrounding farming in more detail.
Kimutai Kolum, a farmer from Soy, told The Standard about the farmers expectations:“We expect Raila to push for reforms in the sector because at the moment, a 90kg-bag goes for Sh2,300 yet the expectation of farmers is for the government to increase it to KSh 3,100. Because of the heavy rains, many farmers have not managed to dry their maize. That is why we are calling on the government to help us access dryers otherwise we stand to suffer serious post-harvest losses,”

Kolum further stated that farmers may be subject to huge harvest losses if the government does not take action and deliver them driers for their grains as promised.
Raila has been trying to make political gains in regions that have traditionally held as strongholds for the Jubilee government.
He’s taken the recent scandals plaguing the national government and frequently criticised how Jubilee is addressing the issues.
In recent days Raila has been vocal about calling answers regarding the KSh 100 billion Eurobond scandal.
