Kenyan Navy Find 100 Men Claiming To Fish

The Kenyan Navy has arrested approximately 100 ‘suspicious’ men off the coast of Kilifi.
A senior police official reported that the men may have sailed to Kenyan waters from Somalia on two vessels and are now being treated as terror suspects.
Upon being detained by the Kenyan Navy, the men claimed that they were only fishing. The Navy forces then turned them over to police investigators.

“They will be interrogated by officers from different agencies and after the probe and profiling, we will be able to know if they are illegal immigrants, criminals or genuine fishermen,” one official told The Standard about the situation.
The 100 men are now being held at unreported sites in both Kilifi and Mombasa for questioning.
At least 80 of the men are reported to be Tanzanians, while 26 more of them are Kenyan. The men were found to be in possession of no fishing equipment, despite their claims that they were fishing at the time of their detainment.
They are now being checked for documentation to see if they can prove that they were allowed to be in Kenyan waters.
The Kenyan Navy has played an active role in combating threats from the militant al-Shabaab group within recent months.
In one incident, a security operation by multiple agencies was conducted on a vessel that arrived on the evening of Thursday, September 17 at the Port of Mombasa.
Tuko.co.ke learned that the ship may have been transporting members of the al-Shabaab militia as well as arms and supplies for the militant group.
