Calls For Referendum Could Be Recipe For Chaos - Mudavadi

The push for referendum by CORD and others is selfish and a recipe for chaos, a former deputy prime mister has said.
Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi, on Sunday, December 27, also termed the Okoa Kenya initiative and other similar moves as immature.
“The multiple calls for referendum could be a recipe for chaos if not well managed. It is clear that calls for referendum are ignited by political competition rather than a genuine desire to reset the Constitution,” said Musalia Mudavadi as quoted by the Daily Nation.
He advised that if at all there were sections of the 2010 constitution that needed to be changed, then Kenya should form a national constitutional conference to discuss and do as necessary.
Musalia Mudavadi specifically discredited Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria’s referendum push – Punguza Mzigo – to scrap Senate, women representatives’ seats and reduce the number of counties from 47 to 16. He said Kuria’s initiative aimed at killing devolution fought for by many Kenyans.
CORD leaders Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetangula and Narc-Kenya’s Martha Karua have already handed over signatures and the draft Okoa Kenya Bill to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission for verification.
The leaders vowed that the move is unstoppable as Jubilee leaders had already turned down their offer to sit and talk over the issues they wanted addressed.
Musalia Mudavadi, a former Raila’s close ally and ODM pentagon member, was addressing leaders from western Kenya region at his home in Vihiga county where he reiterated that he would challenged President Uhuru in 2017 presidential race. In the 2013 election, he came third after Uhuru and Raila.
Among those who attended the meeting were Sabatia MP Alfred Agoi, Vihiga MP Yusuf Chanzu, Lugari MP Ayub Savula, Hamisi MP Charles Gimose, Vihiga county government officials and members of the county assembly.
