Aladwa Wants Court To Stop His Prosecution

Former Nairobi Mayor and current Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Nairobi branch chairman George Aladwa has filed an application in the High Court seeking to stop his prosecution.

Aladwa has endured a torrid week after he was captured on camera allegedly inciting Kibera residents with words ‘people must die for Raila to become President in 2017’.
Aladwa has been charged with inciting of violence following his utterances that are believed to polarize the country along ethnic lines.
High court judge Joseph Onguta will hear the application filed by Aladwa through his lawyers and the case is expected to be mentioned on November 30, 2015.
Aladwa has said that he will cooperate with the police and the court as and when required and will not by all means interfere with the investigations.
This comes after opposition leader Raila Odinga jumped to the defence of Aladwa saying that Jubilee is pushing for his prosecution because they want to intimidate the opposition.

“Instead of addressing the challenges we are posing to them, the Jubilee government is busy intimidating Cord members in a bid to silence them,” Raila said.
Aladwa was arrested on Friday, October 23, by Flying Squad officers and taken to the CID and Kilimani Police station to record statements.
The ODM politician joins a list of other politicians who are facing charges related to hate mongering and incitement. The others are his colleague in CORD Senator Johnston Muthama of Machakos and Jubilee’s Moses Kuria of Gatundu South constituency.
